ROOTS TV EMPOWERS YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH DIGITAL FILM & MEDIA ARTS
OUR MISSION :EMPOWER.
Roots tv is designed to empower young people ages 10-22 by teaching them the technical and creative aspects of digital film making and media production.
GET LIT Books project is a program of Reading Project, which is a community-based program that creates child-friendly reading spaces in barbershops. We leverage the cultural significance of barbershops in the local communities to increase boys' access to culturally relevant, age-appropriate, we hope to encourage and increase out-of-school time reading among young local young boys. who come to the barbershop with their parents, just to pick up a book to read while waiting for a hair cut. If you have any books suitable for children from 5 years old to 10 years old, please get in touch with us. OUR MISSION Help boys ages 4-8 to identify as readers by connecting fun books to a male-centered space. We aim to have further bookshelves in three local barbershops. A big thank you to the owner of the perfect barbershop for supporting our humble project. Through your donation, we can put over 6 bookshelves around 5 local barbershops in our city Perth. https://www.facebook.com/donate/385364779104146/10223650817476247
PROCESS Roots tv primarily works with young people of color who reside in Perth, areas that have been historically underserved and in need of meaningful opportunities for training and engagement in new digital media technology. The skills they learn not only enable them to be more creative and express their ideas, but they are also valuable skills that are in high demand in today’s technology-based world. Roots tv participants engage in their communities by creating documentary and short films that reflect their understanding and vision of the world around them as well as their imagined futures. Focusing on visual storytelling, artistic expression, and performance, Roots tv students create digital video projects in various genres, including documentary, narrative short fiction, and experimental. Working with experienced media instructors, filmmakers and artists, participants learn the various aspects of digital video production such as cinematography, editing, screenwriting, producing, directing, acting, scoring, sound, and lighting.
